After Chemical Peels

What to Expect After A Chemical Peel

After your treatment, it’s normal to experience the following:

  •  Lactic Acid Peel (Gentle & Hydrating)

    • Mild redness and sensitivity.

    • A soft, hydrated glow with minimal peeling.

  • Glycolic Acid Peel (Brightening & Anti-Aging

    • Slight redness and tightness.

    • Possible mild flaking or peeling after a few days.

  • Salicylic Acid Peel (For Acne-Prone Skin)

    • Temporary dryness and mild redness.

    • Potential purging as clogged pores clear out.

    • Some flaking or peeling, especially in oilier areas.

These effects typically last between 3–7 days, depending on the strength of the peel.

Immediate Post-Treatment Care (First 24–48 Hours)

Avoid Touching Your Face

Your skin is more vulnerable to bacteria, so keep your hands off to prevent breakouts and irritation.

Use a Gentle Cleanser

Your skin has already been deeply exfoliated, so opt for a mild, non-stripping cleanser to maintain balance.
Recommended: Biophora Gentle Cleanser – Cleanses while maintaining skin moisture.

Hydrate Your Skin

Moisturizing is key to locking in hydration and calming any post-facial sensitivity.
Recommended: Biophora DermaRich Moisturizer – Provides deep moisture and soothes sensitivity.

Apply Sunscreen Daily (SPF 30+)

Your skin is extra sensitive to UV rays, making sunscreen essential to prevent damage and pigmentation.
Recommended: Biophora Daily Protection SPF 30 – Lightweight and non-greasy.

Adjust Your Skincare Routine Based on Peel Type

Lactic Peel (Gentle & Hydrating)
Focus on hydration—use a rich moisturizer morning and night.
Avoid harsh actives like retinol or vitamin C for at least 5 days.
If skin feels extra dry, use a hydrating serum like hyaluronic acid.

Glycolic Peel (Brightening & Anti-Aging)
Expect mild peeling—opt for a ceramide-based moisturizer to support barrier repair.
Use a calming serum with ingredients like niacinamide to reduce redness.
Avoid harsh exfoliants or scrubs until flaking fully subsides (usually 5–7 days).

Salicylic Peel (For Acne-Prone Skin)
Be patient if purging occurs—this is a normal part of clearing congestion.
Keep skin hydrated, but avoid heavy or occlusive creams that may trap bacteria.
Use anti-inflammatory ingredients like green tea extract or aloe to soothe breakouts.

Use a Clean Pillowcase

Bacteria buildup on pillowcases can cause breakouts. Change them frequently.

Be Gentle with Your Skin

Avoid scrubbing, rubbing, or picking at your skin—let it heal naturally.

Avoid Makeup

Let your skin breathe for at least 24 hours to prevent clogged pores.

Avoid Excessive Heat, Sweating, & Chlorine

Hot showers, saunas, intense workouts, and pools can cause redness and irritation.

Hold Off on Exfoliation

Your facial already exfoliated your skin, so avoid scrubs, retinoids, and acids (AHAs/BHAs) for at least 5–7 days to prevent over-exfoliation.

Keep Your Skincare Routine Simple

Stick to a gentle cleanser, hydrating serum, and moisturizer—skip any harsh actives for a few days.
